White fillings or composite restorations are used to rebuild teeth that have been damaged by decay, chipping or small fractures. The material is bonded to the tooth using a light-cured adhesive and is sculpted into place to recreate or enhance the natural size shape and color of your tooth. We are able to match the shade of the material to the exact shade of your natural tooth for a very esthetic result.
Crowns or caps, as they are commonly known, are ideal for repairing and reinforcing badly damaged teeth. Made of strong porcelain and/or gold, they are particularly recommended for patients with teeth that are cracked and have very large old fillings or are badly decayed. By strengthening weak teeth, they can substantially reduce or eliminate pain, sensitivity, and difficulty with chewing and speaking.
Dental bridges are a great way to replace missing teeth. Your existing teeth are used to literally create a bridge to cross the area where your tooth is missing. Bridges are made from gold, metal, alloys, or porcelain to ensure that they are strong and durable. Bridges are cemented in place and are not removable.
Dental implants are the best way to replace a missing tooth or teeth in the mouth because they don’t require that adjacent teeth be altered. Dental implants consist of a titanium screw that is implanted into the jaw bone with a crown on top (above the gumline). The implant screw itself requires 3-6 months to heal and the crown is screwed or cemented onto the implant once healing is complete. A temporary crown can be placed to help keep your bite and smile stable.
We offer a variety of whitening or bleaching options at City Smiles. Our most popular method of bleaching involves custom-fitted trays that are worn at night with a bleaching gel in the tray. We also offer in-office bleaching (for special events and fast results) as well as pre-filled disposable trays.
Keeping your teeth and gums healthy for life is of utmost importance to us, and therefore we are passionate about making sure your gums are as healthy as possible. We offer regular cleanings as well as deeper cleaning options for patients with gingivitis or periodontal (gum) disease. All of our gum treatments are conducted with your comfort as our top priority. We will work with you to determine which type of cleaning is right for you and will help you develop a home-care routine that is personalized for you.
Root canal therapy is the process of removing the pulp (nerve, blood supply, etc) from the inside of a tooth and filling it with an internal material. We perform limited root canal procedures at City Smiles and refer more complex cases to an endodontist (root canal specialist).
Conventional full dentures - Full dentures are made when all the teeth are removed and the tissue is given time to heal before the dentures are placed. Acrylic plates with teeth imbedded in them are made in a lab and are fitted to your gums and jaw bone. It can take a few months for the gums to heal fully, and during this time you will be without teeth. Dentures can also be secured to dental implants to improve stability of your bite and to prevent them from shifting.
Immediate full dentures - Prior to having your teeth removed, Dr. Mayer takes measurements and has dentures fitted for your mouth. After removing the teeth, the dentures are immediately placed in your mouth. The benefit is that you do not have to spend any time without teeth. You will, however, need to have a follow up visit to refit your dentures because the jaw bone will change shape as your mouth heals. The dentures will need to be tightened after the jaw bone has healed.
Partial Dentures - Partial dentures are another option to replace missing teeth when not all of your teeth need to be removed. They are similar to a bridge, but they are removable and are not a permanent fixture in your mouth.
When no other options exist, we offer dental extractions or tooth removal. Your comfort is our goal and in some instances we need to refer you to an Oral Surgeon for treatment.
